M. Thane Forthman, D.H.A.
President & CEO
Dr. Thane Forthman oversees the growth, product development, and business strategy of the company. Previously, he served as vice
president and principal at Health Care Investment Analysts, Inc. (Baltimore, MD) where he was responsible for the company's provider
profiling business unit which led the company's IPO in February of 1995 (now Truven Health Analytics). Prior to HCIA, he served as a management
consultant with the McGraw-Hill Healthcare Management Group (New York, NY) where he worked with a variety of provider and purchaser organizations
to assess the cost and quality of healthcare delivery. Dr. Forthman has published numerous articles in leading peer reviewed journals relating
to outcomes measurement and change management and has served on the editorial review boards of the International Journal for Quality in Health Care
(Oxford University Press), Hospital Benchmarks, and Health Marketing Quarterly. He received his doctorate in health administration from the
Medical University of South Carolina and completed post-graduate studies in e-commerce at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
Shane P. Wolverton
Senior Vice President, Corporate Development
Mr. Wolverton is responsible for establishing business partnerships and distribution channels for the company.
In this capacity he works with hospital associations, health systems, healthcare information technology vendors,
business coalitions, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators. Mr. Wolverton is a sought after speaker
at national and international conferences on topics relating to the use of medical analytics to assess the
cost-effectiveness and quality of healthcare delivery across the continuum of care. Most recently, Mr. Wolverton
has been a featured speaker at the CMS National Medicare-Medicaid Payment Incentives and Penalties Summit, the
International Health Travel Insurance Conference of the Americas, Global Excel’s International Healthcare Conference,
the American Hospital Association's National SHSMD Conference, and the National Association for Healthcare Quality.
Prior to Comparion, he served as a management consultant with Health Care Investment Analysts, Inc. (Baltimore, MD)
and the McGraw-Hill Healthcare Management Group (New York, NY). Mr. Wolverton received his undergraduate degree from
Auburn University.
Christopher L. Forthman, M.D.
Chief Medical Advisor
Dr. Chris Forthman serves as an advisor to the company in the area of clinical research and medical analytics.
He has multiple active research projects and has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals including
clinically-adjusted methods for assessing the cost and quality of hospital and physician care and innovative
surgical procedures for orthopaedic disorders. Dr. Forthman was trained in Orthopaedics at Harvard Medical School
with an emphasis on complex shoulder, hand, and elbow surgery. He’s a member of the medical staff at The Johns
Hopkins Hospital and serves as an instructor and consultant at the prestigious Curtis National Hand Center in
Baltimore. Dr. Forthman is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). He is a fellow
of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and carries the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Upper
Extremity Surgery from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH).
Richard D. Henderson
Vice President, Operations & Product Management
Mr. Henderson oversees corporate operations and manages the development of the company’s CARE™ Performance Assessment Suite
which includes the CarePoints® Episode Evaluation System, CareChex® Quality Rating System, and CareTracks® Provider Profiling
System. Fully certified by The George Group in the use of Lean Six Sigma techniques, his expertise includes the development
and deployment of efficient and effective operations management and product development methods. For nearly 20 years, he has
served in various capacities in the health information services industry. Prior to Comparion, he served as a management
consultant with Health Care Investment Analysts, Inc. (Baltimore, MD) and the McGraw-Hill Healthcare Management Group (New York, NY).
Mr. Henderson received his M.B.A. from the University of Georgia.
Robert J. Stahlsmith
Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Mr. Stahlsmith directs the sales and marketing activities of the company. He formerly served as vice president of sales at Physcape, Inc.
(An MGMA Services Company, Englewood, CO)--the market leader in web-based coding and productivity benchmarking services for medical groups.
While at Physcape, Mr. Stahlsmith was responsible for establishing a new client base over a two-year period that comprised more than 20,000
physicians. Prior to Physcape, he served as senior district sales manager and trainer at Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals where he contributed
to all aspects of a new division start-up that grew to $75 million in multi-district annual revenues in four years. Mr. Stahlsmith received
his undergraduate degree from Clemson University.
Carol S. Bachtel
Senior Director, Customer Service & Support
Ms. Bachtel oversees all aspects of customer service and support for the company which includes applications training, customer education,
and management of the company’s help center. She has over 20 years of healthcare experience covering a broad range of medical-related activities.
Her career experience includes various management positions at Health Care Investment Analysts, Inc. (Baltimore, MD), health care planning and
research responsibilities with Blue Cross and Blue Shield, regional payer reimbursement management for Travenol’s home health subsidiary, and
hospital safety management for AnMed Health. Ms. Bachtel received her B.S. in public health education from James Madison University and completed
her pre-nursing curriculum at the University of Virginia.
Kenneth J. Boynton
Senior Director, Information Technology
Mr. Boynton oversees and directs all information technology activities for the company including application development, hardware, and software
infrastructure. He has over 30 years of information technology experience across a wide variety of industries including banking, government,
manufacturing, transportation logistics, and healthcare. His career experience includes extensive database administration, application development,
project management, research, and large-scale hardware implementations. Mr. Boynton’s last 12 years have focused entirely in the field of medical
analytics where he contributed to the design and development of two patent pending technologies for measuring the composite quality of hospital and
physician care. Prior to Comparion, Mr. Boynton served as a system architect and project manager for Computer Management Sciences, Inc. where he
managed IT functions for a number of national and international organizations.
